I was not going to ignore all argument that Man United are languishing in 10th position because Ferguson was no longer at the helm to influence referees and the FA, but no matter how much you try to ignore such uninformed talk, it never goes away.
So I find myself asking what sort of Argument is that? That Fergie had a hold on the FA, yet no manager was punished more by the FA than him! Please people should find a more valid reason for letting a 60+ old man continually use an average team to lift the trophy! After the retirement of Keane and the ill fated signing of Hargreaves, United have had a relatively average team, becoming more so with every season, yet in that time we have lifted more trophies than Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City and Liverpool and all these team have had a better midfield and arguably a better team than Man United. Yes Fergie had a god complex and liked to assert himself on situations, so definitely the Fergie effect was one good reason why his weak teams succeeded, but to suggest he influenced the game in any way is just crazy!
During United’s 8-2 victory over Arsenal was there a Fergie influence? No just a team in groove. When Rooney executed a stunning bicycle kick to give United a 2-1 win against Man city? No that was pure genius. When we beat Chelsea 4 times out of 5? That was just opportunity. When Dimitar Berbatov scored a hat trick in a 3-2 victory against Liverpool? That was just pure form! And in these period Man United have suffered a 6-1 drubbing at the hand City, a heart wrenching late 2-1 loss to Chelsea, a jaw dropping 2-1 loss to Arsenal and a walloping 3-1 lose to Liverpool via a brilliant hat trick from Kuyt!
TEAM IN TRANSITION?
What you are seeing now at United is not a transitional period; Fergie to Moyes, No! It is a revelation period. Yes this season is just exposing United for the weak team they have been and are! Depending on half baked English players in the ilk of Welbeck, Cleverley in the name of academy graduate while players like Sneijder, Van der vaart and Lewandoski who all wanted to don a united shirt were left hanging by the almighty sir! No offense to English fans but United could do with players in the frame of Wilshere, Shaw, Berkley and from the little we saw of Mc eachran he was brilliant, you wonder what our scouts do with their time?
Now if you must blame someone blame Fergie; our lord and savior, he is the creator of United’s problems. His failure to add any sort of steel or flair in the midfield over the last couple of seasons is the reason why we are going through what we are at the moment.
We’ve had opportunities to sign Sneijder, RVDV, Ozil and even Ramsey, players who would have made very huge difference in our current squad, but instead we ended up signing Bebe, Young, Manucho and Diouf.
Fergie never tried as hard to add in the middle of the park as he did when trying to sign a winger; case in point Lucas Moura, Fergie was reportedly ready to pay 36 million for him! You might argue that he tried with Sneijder but was put off by his wage demands, but imagine if he was a winger or a striker, he’d be on our payroll now. How much do Young, Anderson and Nani earn at United again?
You’ve got to wonder why Pogba is at Juventus and Anderson a perennial bench warmer is still in our books? For all his troubles, Ravel Morrison is still head over heels better than Cleverley, but that’s another case, nobody can argue SAF didn’t give him a fighting chance.
My point is for the champions we are, United are an average team, with the exception of Rooney, RVP, DDG, Rafael, the others are either washed up or plain average. Maybe I am being to harsh, but at the moment sitting at 10th position you got to be honest with yourself.
Many would argue that SAF’s gift to Moyes was a poisoned ivy, a Greek gift but the truth is Moyes was able to manage pretty good an average team at Merseyside, always maintaining a top 10 placing, so maybe we shouldn’t be surprised that we are languishing in 10th place, after all he is an average manager and he knows nothing about a top 4 finish and is relatively comfortable fighting for Europa qualification. So maybe Man United fans should get in the frame of mind of fighting for Europa qualification and forget the Champions league. For what do you expect when an team average team is handled by an average manager.
